New Music: Brandy featuring Chris Brown – ‘Put It Down’

Less than 24 hours after her reliving her journey on Behind The Music, Brandy opens a new chapter with “Put It Down,” the lead single from her upcoming album Two Eleven, her debut on RCA/Chameleon Records.

Featuring a verse from her labelmate Chris Brown, “Put It Down” is a hard-hitting love song with all the makings of a hit. Unlike anything in her catalog, Brandy’s comeback is off to a good start with the Sean Garrett-penned cut.

New Music: Latif – ‘Philadelphia Healing’ [EP]

Corey “Latif” Williams vows to restore the image of the city he loves on his new EP, Philadelphia Healing.  A collection of feel-good soul tunes, Philadelphia Healing carries a sound of optimism and positivity — something missing from R&B, and more importantly, missing from the Philly sound.

With the rise of the Philly sound through neo-soul in the early 00’s, I never understood why Latif’s career never reached the height of Musiq Soulchild, or higher. His debut album, Love in the First, though not a commercial success, featured songwriting and production from some of the best in the genre, including Bryan-Michael Cox, Sean Garrett, Ryan Leslie, Adonis Shropshire and Johnta Austin; and was, at least in my mind, a solid debut project.

Luckily for us, his career didn’t just fizzle and die. Over the years, Latif found success as a songwriter, penning tracks from Chris Brown (“Damage”), JoJo (“Like That”), Faith Evans (“Gone Already), and Musiq Soulchild (“Teach Me”).
