Earlier in the week, we got our first glimpse of Brandy on the set of her new music video for “Put It Down,” the lead single from her forthcoming sixth album Two Eleven, due October 2. Fans at Washington D.C.’s Howard Theater were treated to Brandy’s first live performance of “Put It Down,” the lead single from her upcoming sixth album Two Eleven, last night. The 90s powerhouse commanded the stage with her crisp live vocals and booty-poppin’ choreography. It’s clear Frank Gatson, Beyoncé’s longtime choreographer who’s responsible for Bran’s moves in the still-unreleased “Put It Down” music video, has taught the “Full Moon” singer a thing or two about selling an 8-count and owning the stage.
It’s refreshing to Brandy FINALLY promoting her Chris Brown-assisted single that’s been available on iTunes since May, even if only through radio promo. Baby steps. Next, she’ll have to follow-up the underperforming track with something to really make people want to shell out $9.99 when her album drops. By the way, there’s no better time than the present to release the video, Bran. Just sayin’.
After weeks of hearing “sometime this summer,” Brandy has finally set a release date for her new album, Two Eleven.
Usher lit up the white carpet as he arrived on the white carpet at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday. Wearing a blue suit, the “Climax” singer posed for the photogs and dapped fellow crooner John Legend on the carpet. Alicia Keys showed off her curves in a form-fitting black number, Nelly Furtado beamed in white, and Jordin Sparks boo’ed up with boyfriend Jason Derulo before taking the stage to pay tribute to Whitney Houston .
Check out more shots from the white carpet and decide who popped and who flopped below.
VH1 will pay tribute to the late Whitney Houston at this year’s VH1 Divas, according Billboard.
“We all felt that if any show could pay tribute to Whitney’s music, it would be ‘Divas,'” VH1 president Tom Calderone says. “December felt like enough time where it wouldn’t be sad anymore, you’d want to celebrate her music.”
Whitney’s longtime musical director Ricky Minor will executive produce the show, which will be taped in December in Los Angeles. No artists have been confirmed for the tribute.
Houston, who died in February, is one of the artists credited with giving the event legitimacy in the eyes of some. The iconic singer is a three-time performer on Divas in 1999, 2002 and 2003.
This has potential to be something special. Taping in December gives the producers enough time to book the best of the best to pay tribute to one of the true legends in music. On my shortlist of performers are: Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Beyoncè, Patti LaBelle, Amber Riley (Glee), Jennifer Hudson (maybe), Christina Aguilera (ONLY IF SHE CAN CONTROL THAT DAMN YODELING), Ledisi, Chaka Khan, Kim Burrell, Deborah Cox, Faith Evans, Kelly Price, Brandy, and Monica. I know it’s a long shot but I’m wouldn’t mind seeing Adele perform as well.
