New Music: Mateo featuring Stacy Barthe – ‘Looking You Up’

Mateo links up with fellow singer-songwriter Stacy Barthe for “Looking You Up,” the second release from his Suite 823 mixtape, arriving August 1.  Produced by Kerry “Krucial” Brothers and Zeke MacUmber, the song about lost love has a Frank Ocean-esque vibe with his laid back, slow building beat.

Beyoncè shares support for Frank Ocean

Beyoncè is the latest of Frank Ocean’s peers to show their support for the singer-songwriter, who revealed earlier this week that his first love was a man.

On her website, the “Crazy in Love” singer posted a black-and-white picture of Ocean with a poem of sorts, acknowledging his bravery and courage.  “Be fearless / Be honest / Be generous / Be brave / Be poetic / Be open / Be free / Be yourself / Be in love / Be happy / Be inspiration,”  she wrote.

Beyoncè shared a similar sentiment last year in an interview with, showing her admiration for the LGBT community.  “If anyone is brave and true to themselves, it’s my gay fans. The amount of confidence and fearlessness it takes to do what maybe is not what your parents expect you to do or what society may think is different – to be brave and be different and to be yourself – is just so beautiful. It’s the most beautiful thing you can be, and it’s what we all want to be at the end of the day. And not worrying about satisfying or becoming what other people think you’re supposed to be, that’s like the ultimate dream – to just be that brave.”

New Music: Rio – “Good Morning Dreamer”

Back in May, I featured Rio as the first artist in WATM’s Breaking & Entering series. Now the Nashville-born singer, songwriter and producer returns with title track from his upcoming Good Morning Dreamer project. Much like “Sex and Sativa,” “Good Morning Dreamer” is catchy enough to get stuck in your head after only a few listens.

“”Good Morning Dreamer” was inspired by southern hip-hop and Jack Daniels. Combining the intimacy of a day in bed and trunk-driven bass line,” Rio says. “GMD is sure to compliment a great time.”

Breaking & Entering: Rio – ‘Sex and Sativa’

Breaking & Entering is a new series that highlights upcoming-and-coming and/or unsigned artists on WATM.  I’m not Clive Davis, but I know a hit when I hear it, and I know a star when I see it.  So,  this new series will give the readers of WATM a chance to hear some new music from those on the rise. If you are an artist with music or a project you’d like featured, simply throw me an email at NOTE: Submitting music doesn’t guarantee a post — I have to like what I’m hearing in order to feature it, but you knew that already. Right?

Video| Tank – ‘Next Breath’ (Live at Atlantic Records)

Earlier this week, Tank taped an acoustic performance of “Next Breath,” the latest single from his newly released fifth album This Is How I Feel, at Atlantic Records.

As always, Tank delivers raw vocals, and once again proves why he’s one of the best male vocalists in the R&B game today. His new album is a definite must-have for any true fan of R&B. He doesn’t stray too far from using formula of blending love ballads, bedroom tunes and smooth mid-tempo tracks on the set, that features appearances from Chris Brown, T.I. and Busta Rhymes.
