New Music: Brandy featuring Chris Brown – ‘Put It Down’
Less than 24 hours after her reliving her journey on Behind The Music, Brandy opens a new chapter with “Put It Down,” the lead single from her upcoming album Two Eleven, her debut on RCA/Chameleon Records.
Featuring a verse from her labelmate Chris Brown, “Put It Down” is a hard-hitting love song with all the makings of a hit. Unlike anything in her catalog, Brandy’s comeback is off to a good start with the Sean Garrett-penned cut.
The single hits iTunes on May 8, and precedes the album which features production from Timbaland, Mario Winans, Danja, Hit-Boy, Noah “40” Shebib, Rico Love, Ester Dean and Frank Ocean.
When I heard Brandy’s new single featured Chris Brown, I cringed at the thought of her attempting to sex herself up in order to move units. As history has shown us, the sex sells route doesn’t always work. Especially for Brandy. Hi Afrodisiac (which is one of my all-time favorite Brandy albums, ranking second behind Never Say Never). Thankfully, “Put It Down” is a welcomed surprise. The best part about the track is that the production doesn’t overwhelm her voice. Over the years, Brandy’s voice has matured immensely, so it’s cool that even on a bass-heavy track it shines.
